Localisation API

This API is ideal for applications related to the business fleet management for Orange France mobile users. The API also allows the end-user to activate and de-activate the location service.

overview

The Location API enables your application to get geographic coordinates of a given Orange France mobile phone or a fleet (delivery of raw location data).

The API delivers location results as a triple coordinate (X,Y,Z). This service works on any mobile terminal, including indoor with a 98% GSM territory network coverage.

geographic coverage of the service

The service is delivered in mainland France (inc. Corsica). It is neither available on mobile devices roaming on foreign networks, nor in the French overseas territories. The service is also not accessible over a foreign device roaming in France.

send localisation requests to the Orange localisation platform
leverage the localisation information into an application. The Orange platform will perform the necessary privacy control checks prior to answering any request

specific features
It consists in localisation of SIM cards of Orange France mainland territories.
For a device to be located it must:
have an Orange SIM card in the device
be turned on with PIN code validated (if necessary)
be under the Orange France metropolitan network radio coverage

The API returns a location (latitude and longitude) of the terminal indicating the radius of the antenna therefore the accuracy of the location.

level of service
Response time of service depends on mobile status (on or off) and network radio coverage For example, response time of a mobile terminal switched on and under radio coverage is between 4 to 9 seconds.

service accuracy
The location service has accuracy between 328 feet and 0.3 miles in town, and between 3.1 and 6.2 miles in rural areas. According to signal conditions, response times can range between 4 to 15 seconds.

security
Transport is over https with a server certificate. Identification and authentication is managed through a "basic authentication" type mechanism.
