The location API from Orange allows you to access mobile location functions from your web application.

The API is now in beta mode
This means that it is based around a commercial model allowing you to purchase credits for locating a mobile phone.
There are no daily limits as you are now able to purchase credit bundles in Euros for locating a mobile phone.
The API is able to ask the end user for location authorisation. If granted, the API can determine which network cell the user's mobile is located in.
You are the only one able to locate this mobile user through this location authorisation.
The exact position of the cell and the size of the cell are sent back to your web application. The cell size can be between 300m (urban area) to 30km (rural area) depending on the location of the cell.
Currently, the service is only available for Orange mobiles on the Orange France network (MVNO included).
An upgrade of this service is being evaluated, in order to offer a multi-operator availability, in France, but also in other european countries.
However, it's not limited to any type of mobile device and nothing has to be installed on the device in order to benefit from this service.

In a nutshell, the location API enables you to:
ask mobile users for permission to access their location via a SMS
retrieve the network cell's position and size
The web service exposes a REST-RPC style interface.
The requests use GET and POST methods in HTTP or HTTPS mode.
Currently, the API is in beta mode.

It will cost you credits each time you use the Location API. The cost is deducted from your pre-pay account. There are special offers (discounts) when you top-up by a certain amount, see below :
You can check how much credit you have left whenever you want, top-up your account (using Visa or Mastercard) in the API Manager
