IMS Initiative
Orange believes the future of telecoms is convergence, where the customer has a seamless experience using innovative services across multiple platforms.
In order to respond to these new needs, France Telecom Group - with its strategy as an integrated operator - has chosen to roll out an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) over its entire network.
(IMS provides a framework for third-parties and operators to develop services rapidly and allows newly developed services to seamlessly inter-work with other infrastructures and service platforms.)
As a result, Orange Partner have created the IMS initiative to involve you – our Orange Partner members - in France Telecom Group Orange Labs work in developing a test bed for IMS services.
Through this initiative we are able to provide you with the right information, the right tools and eventual access to a test IMS platform, to help you to create converged services in advance of our IMS platform deployment, and to shape the future of our IMS strategy.

what is IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem)?
for developers
IMS can be seen as an enhancement to the service model. New application concepts can be realised more quickly and new innovative services can be offered to a dynamic telecoms market. This allows developers to focus their efforts more on the products and services rather than compatibility issues on different platforms.
Developers will play a vital role in shaping the developments of IMS.
We need your feedback, and your ideas, products and solutions to make IMS a success - easily offering exciting new and innovative converged services to our customers.
for operators
A move to an all IP infrastructure will allow networks to transport a wide variety of data traffic, simplifying network architecture, reducing operational cost and providing more than just voice services to the customer.
for customers
IMS will facilitate the operator being able to offer new and exciting multimedia and converged services on both their wireless and fixed-line devices. Customers expect to be able to do more with their communications services seamlessly and for less money. The convergence market is expected to grow because users are showing interest in services beyond voice.
