new Orange App Shop client devices

As the first stage of the large plan, the Orange App Shop client is being rolled out as follows:

over-the-air...

So far this year, in the UK, customers who already own a Nokia 6700, Sony Ericsson C510, C905, W595, W910i and W995 have all received the App Shop over-the-air (OTA) to their device, with an update to the Nokia 6303 to follow shortly this month.

In France, the OTA update has been sent to customers with the Sony Ericsson W995.  Those using a Nokia 6700, Sony Ericsson C905, W595 and W910i will also soon receive the Orange App Shop client OTA this month.

pre-installed...

Plus, the client has already been pre-installed onto brand new SE W995 devices being shipped to stores from the factory, with the first shipment due to arrive in both the UK and France this month.  The next device in the pre-installed roll-out plan for the UK and France is the Nokia 6700 .

In total, a massive 1.3 million Orange customer will shortly have access to the mobile application catalogue through the Orange App Shop client.  And that’s just in the UK and France, and just in the next few weeks.

And that's only the start; we'll soon be rolling it out onto LG, HTC, Motorola, Nokia, RIM, Samsung and Sony Ericsson devices.

why are we doing all this?

Mobile apps fall under the area of multimedia inside Orange – by which we mean anything that can be done on the phone which isn’t calling or texting.

We know that customer usage really does increase when we offer friendly innovation, and combine the best devices, services and tariffs. In February 2009, 17% of our customer base were active mobile data users consuming on average 25mb data per month. Eight months later, and that figure has increased to 24% of our customer base using 30mb data per month - that's almost 50% more customers enjoying mobile data services.

We want to continue this growth introducing more customers to great mobile multimedia services, and mobile apps is one of the steps we are taking to achieve this.

Together we can do more...
