the Orange Code Camp Contest

Attendees of Orange Code Camp, Sarasota were challenged to submit finished products by the end of the 72 hour event for a chance to win a Segway Human Transporter.

what was The Orange Code Camp Contest?


Orange challenged entrants to develop the best and most compelling products for the Orange network.

Experts from Orange and their sponsors were on hand at Code Camp, Sarasota, to help entrants code and finalise their products for submission in to the Orange Contest.

The winning products were the most innovative, with the most potential for commercialisation with Orange.




the criteria - what were we looking for?

We were looking for commercially viable, innovative products developed within industry standards, for the following categories:

 Best Overall Product of the US Code Camp 2005 
 Most Compelling Use of an Operating System
 Best Entertainment Product (including all games, multimedia and content)
 Best Use of Orange's Voice and Data Network 

NB: entrants could submit more than one product for the Contest.

the timeline

At Code Camp Sarasota:

Entrants were required to be a registered Code Camp attendee to enter the competition, and a premium member to submit their final entry.

While at Code Camp, entrants could finish developing their product with help and support from Orange and our partners.

Deadline: 08:00 EST (Eastern Standard Time), Wednesday 20th April 2005.

Final submissions had to be made using the 'my account' section on www.orangepartner.com

Attendees were required to state the product name, followed by "Orange Code Camp Contest" in the product title, and be sure to state that this was their final submission, including the .cab .sis .exe files where relevant.

Submissions were required to include the following information:

1. name of product and 100 word description
2. target market (based on the categories listed above)
3. business/commercial rationale for product development
4. entrant's track record in commercial product development including success stories (and 100 word summary of their company)
5. languages supported (e.g. English, French, German)
6. details of APIs and data bearers supported
7. second line support capabilities (e.g. hosting)
8. the product files.

the benefits for developers

At Orange Code Camp, entrants could find all the experts required to help enhance their products, plus peer-to-peer support from the other developers helping them to find the best solutions and improve their coding.

In addition they could:

 develop products closely with Orange and our Sponsors, Symbian, Microsoft, Nokia, & PalmSource 
 potentially gain fast-track entry into the Orange Internal Product Catalogue
 access free online tools, test against devices in the Developer Centre at Orange Code Camp
 utilise on-tap technical support.

In addition the winning product from each category would:

 be featured on www.orangepartner.com
 gain fast-track submission in to the Orange Internal Product Catalogue 
 gain maximum exposure in the catalogue by being a "featured product" for four weeks each.
