The Java Challenge - two winners announced!

The Java Challenge was a competition launched by Orange and Nokia last year for the developer community to design applications on a Nokia device using Java.

We were overwhelmed by the number of submissions - thank you for your enthusiasm! Over 100 ideas were sent in, of which 20 were taken forward for formal review by Nokia and Orange.

Two overall winners have now been chosen!

Congratulations to Ascendo, who win the Consumer Application category with Ascendo Fitness™, and to J2X Technologies who win the Business Application category with Mileage Tracker Pro.

Ascendo Fitness™ is designed to allow Orange mobile users to take control of their health by tracking calories consumed in food and drink and calories burned while exercising. Features include a nutrition database containing the most common foods and beverages and an activity database containing the most frequent types of exercise.

Mileage Tracker Pro enables users to keep track of personal mileage using their mobile device. Features of the application include the synchronisation of mileage data over GPRS, recording of car mileage, the delivery of meeting and location data directly to your mobile and the easy generation of mileage claim reports.

As part of their prize, the two winners showcase their applications in the Orange Pavilion at 3GSM Cannes, receive complimentary places at Code Camp U.S as well as having their applications promoted as 'featured' products in the Orange internal catalogue for four weeks.

Thank you again to all who took part.
