What was the Java Challenge?
A challenge devised by Nokia and Orange for developers to come up with ideas and subsequent applications to be developed for use on a Nokia device over the Java operating system for potential commercialisation over the Orange network.
The outcome?
The challenge has produce applications that have been developed and tested in conjunction with developers, and which are suitable for commercial launch over the Orange network.
How did the developers benefit?
Successful developers benefited from developing their applications closely with Orange and Nokia, resulting in fast-track entry into the Orange product catalogue. Free tools and free testing against Java-Verified testing and certification program were provided for these shortlisted applications, together with on-tap technical support.
The shortlisted applicants were invited to attend Orange Code Camp (Poitiers), with our compliments.
Was there a challenge winner?
There were up to 20 successful applications developed through the Java Challenge. These were all winners. Two overall winners were also announced.
What were we looking for?
Innovative, commercially-sound applications perfectly compatible with the technical requirements of Nokia devices, Java and the needs of the Orange customer, both business and consumer.
More specifically, applications that fit into one or more of the following categories:
Screensavers / logos
Ringtones
Personal productivity
Communication (phone, fax, synchronization etc)
Travel tools and guides
Games sequels
Enterprise applications
Community applications (e.g. chat, dating mblogging)
