the contests


We held a number of competitions and challenges at the event itself including the Orange Innovation Contest. Many of you took part with only a few being rewarded for their innovation, design, usability and business potential.

the Orange Innovation Contest

The Orange Innovation Contest is an opportunity to showcase radical technological breakthrough and innovation by presenting product or service to a panel of judges from Orange and the France Telecom Group as well as within the industry.

The Orange Innovation Contest represents the third and most important ‘meet us’ activity.  We received 36 submissions and reviewed these in the week before Partner Camp, short-listing 10 to be invited to present to our panel of 15 judges at Partner Camp.

Zooxt by Zooxt Ltd.

 

What is it?

Zooxt is a mobile application that enhances the SMS experience by allowing subscribers to send personalized, colorful and visually attractive messages from their mobile device to any MMS capable device. Zooxt is the industry first completely standalone advanced messaging solution.

 

What does it do?

Zooxt is a complete standalone device-based application.No network integration is required. Zooxt colorful messages are edited like regular SMS just with a far more sophisticated, attractive UI, exposing the most advanced features with great ease of use.

Why did we choose it?

The judges particularly liked Zooxt as a refreshing and funky mobile experience for text messaging, which continuous to represent a significant revenue stream for mobile network operators. The service works seamlessly across any mobile network as long as the message recipient is in possession of a MMS enabled device. It is of particular importance that there is no need to implement anything in the mobile network itself. Zooxt best addressed the 3 criteria applied for this innovation contest: innovation, value for end-users and commercial viability.

VeloComputer™ by SoundofMotion

 

What is it?

VeloComputer™ application transforms your mobile device into an advanced cycling cadence monitor. Put your phone in a pocket and use audible VeloTones™ to know your cadence by customized sounds.

 

What does it do?

Strap your phone on a thigh with a sports holder or just put it in a pocket of your cycling tights and transform it into a cycling cadence monitor. The innovative technology uses built-in accelerometer to measure cycling cadence. Use VeloTones™ to audibly monitor your cadence.

Why did we choose it?

Sound of Motion has been allocated the “design and innovation award” for their innovative & targeted solution for cyclists. In accordance to the panel of judges the solution is of great potential for other outdoor sports as well. This mobile application leverages the haptic sensor embedded in new mobile devices, while measuring speed and distance through an innovative Bluetooth sensor attached to one of the bike’s wheels.

FutureDial Suite Operator Edition by FutureDial Inc.

 

What is it?

FutureDial Suite Operator Edition is white-label PC software for managing and sharing mobile phone / device data and content between devices and the operator network.

 

What does it do?

FutureDial Suite Operator Edition manages a user's device on their PC. FutureDial Suite Operator Edition is provided in white-label form that can be fully branded as an operator product. It also provides cross-vendor device support, meaning this “sticky” operator application stays on the user’s PC when their phone changes, providing a seamless exchange of contacts and content from their old to new device.

Why did we choose it?

FutureDial presented their PC desktop phone management tool which addresses the generic challenge any mobile user is facing when changing phone: how to transfer my personal information such as my address book from my old to my new phone. The tool is suitable for use in operator retail outlets and could also be used by end-users themselves. The judges allocated the “business potential award”.

the SoftAtHome Contest

This contest accompanied the SDK release as SoftAtHome launched the first Open Platform which enables third-party applications to be deployed in the Digital Home.

No specific developments skills were required.  Web / JavaScript / Flash universe, or embedded-systems and C language developers alike were excited by the functionalities proposed by the platform.

The SoftAtHome team were looking for the best innovative use-case scenario proposal.

Out-of-home video calling solution proposed by

The solution proposed was for when you are out of home and receive a visit. When the visitor rings the bell you can speak with him through a video call made automatically by the system to your mobile phone.

Creating products that customers love was the challenge that the Brand and Design & Usability team set out.

The Design & Usability Challenge assessed the fitness of your products for our customers.

The challenge was set to present the best brand and design usability solution as part of the Orange Innovation Contest judging process.
