developer play hut

The developer play hut was set with 6 distinct focal areas offering various opportunities to experience and experiment.  It was here that you could code, test and play late into the night, and see a range of demonstrations of Orange products and services.

We also introduced the Partner Exchange – an event where you were encouraged to explore how you could work together as partners, sharing insights, ideas and potentially swapping skills.

And the interactive developer play hut presented a great environment to aid this process, with thought-provoking and inspirational demos and presentations, to fuel imaginations!

demos

There was a wide range of demos on show, reflecting mobile and converged services.

These were presented in 6 areas:

together we can do more
tools and testing
understand, learn, play, develop
let’s design… the Orange way
is it all Soft At Home?
apps, apps, apps

'I saw an interesting demo from the Soft At Home project. I also was at the APIs stand watching the widget toolkit in action.'

Oscar Iñiguez de la Torre Bernabeu, Editor, Weblogs SL

together we can do more

We showed you what we did earlier!  We invited your suggestions for how you’d have done things differently or what you’d have added. We valued and enjoyed your input!

The demos we showed you included:
call management:
allowing customers to manage multiple calls and/or screen incoming calls, with a customisable menu of outgoing voicemail/SMS messages giving an immediate response to a new caller
read and go:
a 3G/WiFi connected epaper device giving access to a digital kiosk providing books and newspapers on the go
Orange TV:
a demonstration of the service we offer our customers and inviting content ideas
Live Radio:
a wireless digital radio which can be connected to livebox or Flybox
Digital Photoframe:
a wireless digital photoframe, able to display real time information

'ebook newsreader - very interesting to see this technology, especially pre-launch demonstrated'

Jeffrey Litvack, GM, Mobile & Emerging Products, Associated Press

understand, learn, play, develop

Here we showcased our APIs, with demonstrations on how they can and have been used.  We also showed you our web widget builder and our tools supporting the djinngo platform.

We had so much to tell and show you about our APIs that we even continued one of our formal sessions in the developer play hut where Pierre Combelles, VP Technical Alignment and 3rd Parties, gave a comprehensive hands-on presentation to showcase our API portfolio.

let’s design... the Orange Way

This was where we provided first hand brand and design advice for our developers.

We offered a product health check – how fit is your product for our brand!

An essential element for Orange – we are justifiably proud of our brand and we want you to get the most out of our partnership and to share and benefit from our brand strength!

We set a brand and usability challenge as part of the Orange Innovation Contest, and contestants were able to get top quality guidance here to help secure success… this valuable advice was available to all.

is it all Soft At Home?

'I had conversations about design and the digital home; and I familiarized myself with the products in the digital home area.'

Niki Saukolin, Senior Manager, UI Development, Idean Enterprises, Inc.

We introduced our affiliate company, SoftAtHome, and whilst at Partner Camp, they launched their developer SDK for the SoftAtHome Open Platform.

This allows for the development of innovative 3rd party applications that feature home devices, such as a TV set-top box or an Internet Home Gateway, in their functionality – the affiliate team helped developers build applications for IP and IPTV services and ran a SoftAtHome contest to award the best use-case scenario.

apps, apps, apps

This was where we focussed on the mobile market - with over 116million mobile customers in 16 countries, we have a roadmap to extend our Application Shop route-to-market and now have shops in the UK, Belgium, and with Spain coming soon.

We are also selling mobile apps through
Orange World in France.

So we have a healthy interest in downloadable mobile apps and our team were kept busy in the developer play hut, helping partners through the necessary steps leading to their product being featured in our Application Shops.

Find out more about our Application Shops

The areas we helped with included...
product certification – to be Orange Compatible and meet Industry Standards
preparation of NDA (non disclosure agreement) and getting ready for signing
exploring commercial opportunities, with some products suitable for more than one shop if presented in more than one language – currently we are accepting apps in English, French, Dutch and Spanish…
product readiness for launch review with next steps recommendations
