Orange API and widget contest

We were delighted that so many of you were so interested in the Orange API and Widget Workshops, the mash pit which we created for Partner Camp, and the Orange API and Widget Contest.
The contest was devised to find innovative applications making use of any or all of the 13 APIs launched at Partner Camp.

Technical and marketing support was on hand in the mash pit to assist with application development, and we saw some really inspired uses of the Orange APIs.

The finalists presented to a panel of judges from the Orange API teams, and 3 winners were selected, and announced in the closing pow wow:

Wizi Social Networking add-on by Symlabs

what is it?
Wizi.com is a mobile social networking service with a mobile application focus. It enables users to track their friends and how reach them by suggesting the most optimal route.
This application add-on is a mash-up developed to add more convenience for Orange customers using the Wizi.com services.
what does it do?
The users of the service can control how and to whom they expose their location to. Users can be notified about friends that are approaching or can have an alert sent to them. Parents can use this service to track their children.
The Wizi.com mash-up used Symlabs and ZXID.org components to integrate various Orange APIs to provide a tailored and easy to use service.

Personal APIs
The application used the Orange Authentication API to enable Orange customers use their credential to login to Wizi.com.
The Orange Personal Contacts API was used to fetch user's contacts and add them to the buddy list so that the user can track them.
The Orange Personal Calendar API was used to fetch appointments and send alerts based on estimated time to reach the meeting place.
Orange Personal Photo API was used to upload photos taken with the handset.

2nd runner-up: My Hotel by Microsoft
what is it?
An application to notify guests of hotel using different methods. |

what does it do?
This is an application for hotel guests which notifies them when they should leave the hotel to go to the airport.
All hotel guests registered on a specific flight, with the same hotel-departure time, will be notified by the application that it is time to go using voice call, sms and email.
This application is also able to offer access to replacement flights in case of flight cancellation. In this scenario,, each hotel guest would have to confirm their own new choice of flight.

The application uses the Personal API to get hotel guest profile (mobile tel number, email…). It uses the Contact Everyone API to notify hotel the guests grouped by return flight ID, and it uses SMS and email APIs to handle one-to-one communication with guests for confirmation of replacement flights.

3rd runner-up: Picasa to Pikeo RSS transfer by Cellfish Media

what is it?
This application transfers pictures from a Picasa web account to Orange's pikeo album.
what does it do?
In addition to transferring pictures from Picasa to pikeo, this application can also take any media RSS compatible stream as a source and transfer these to pikeo. |
