Orange Code Camp - Futuroscope, Poitiers, France
13-15 September 2004
a meeting of minds - Orange Code Camp
Take some of industry's finest developers. Add one of the world's leading mobile communications companies. Mix together in one creatively charged environment. The result? Orange Code Camp… a mouth-watering blend of invention and inspiration.
Held for Orange Partner members between 13 and 15 September 2004 at the stunning Futuroscope venue in Poitiers, France, Orange Code Camp marked a new era of collaboration between Orange and the developer community. Throughout, we wanted the message to be clear: the relationship between Orange and its developers is a partnership of equals designed to take your applications further than you ever imagined. Which is why, from the moment our guests arrived to the time they departed, no expense was spared in our efforts to make Code Camp an unforgettable experience. The days were filled with presentations, seminars, workshops and the chance to discuss ideas and thoughts with members of the Orange Partner team. The evenings came to life with an array of exclusive entertainment, with meals, snacks and refreshments available around the clock. A Coding Room and Orange Developer Centre enabled coding and testing of your applications 24 hours a day, followed by the sharing of your results with us via pre-booked 'show us your applications' meetings. We wanted attendees to enjoy a unique opportunity to share ideas, solve problems and forge friendships in an atmosphere of welcoming informality. Did we achieve this? We hope so. If you attended Code Camp, here is a reminder of what you witnessed, learnt and shared with us. If you didn't attend, and are an Orange Partner member, please read-on to discover what you missed. If you are not a member of Orange Partner, we will be happy to share certain information with you, but some of the information is, understandably, open only to members of the Orange Partner programme. You told us you wanted more information about Orange requirements and 'offers' available to the end-user. So we delivered just that; in addition to three keynote presentations on the Monday afternoon looking at three important aspects of Orange, the other Orange presentations were placed within distinct themes – Networks and APIs, Content, Operating Systems and Execution Environments plus Test Signature and Validation. To achieve this, sessions from Platinum Sponsor Nokia, Gold Sponsors Intel, PalmSource and Symbian, and Silver Sponsor Microsoft were interspersed throughout the three days. Have a look to the Orange Code Camp, Poitiers programme and the sessions reports:
Why not join us at Code Camp, Opio for an update on the current technologies? We wanted to give you the chance to speak to us. To show us your applications. To develop your products with us in the room. To throw your general and technical questions at us. Generally, to communicate with us one-to-one. To do this, we provided you with a Coding Room, access to the Orange Developer Centre and the chance to 'Show Us Your Applications'. You used all facilities to the full! Orange Partner members - more information is available here The "Talk to Orange" slots were free-format one and a half hour sessions interspersed within the programme, designed to give you an opportunity to tell us what you think of Orange and the Orange Partner programme. Are we meeting your needs? What do you want us to deliver? What are we doing right or wrong? Are we explaining the requirements of the Orange customer to you in enough detail? These sessions were invaluable to us. Only by knowing and understanding what you want, can we hope to deliver. Thank You. Orange Partner members - what did you tell us? the party Next came Wednesday night's Blow Out Party, featuring top 60s cover band, The Overtures, jaw-dropping supernatural tricks from Urban Majik, and tunes from a top London DJ. For a taste of the entertainment at Orange Code Camp, below are a couple of first-hand accounts from two attendees. Soon after, the band took to the stage and the cocktails appeared… giving everyone a great opportunity to mingle with Orange staff. With day two drawing to a close, it was also time to dig out the drinks vouchers and get down to some serious relaxing. Another live band, dancing and cocktails guaranteed a great night… and I had a session to cover at 8am the following day!" When it comes to giving an event that much-needed edge, nothing works better than a little friendly rivalry. PalmSource/Orange Smartphone Application Contest The prize? Only a Segway Human Transporter (and a Palm TREO 600 for the category winners)!
Congratulations to Scott and the runners-up, and our thanks, of course, to PalmSource! Take a look at details of the winning applications![]() The Symbian Challenge The launch of the Orange / Nokia Symbian Series 60 Challenge also happened at Code Camp – inviting developers to develop and submit application ideas for use on a Nokia 6630 or the new Series 60 GPRS/WCDMA/EDGE device, over the Symbian operating system, using the Series 60 user interface. The prize? For 20 shortlisted developers, 6 months of developer support from Nokia, a free round of Symbian Signed testing and the possibility of a fast-track into the Orange Product Catalogue. A serious offer. the sponsors
