Orange Partner sponsored the London mobileCamp event - where designers and developers got together and talked about mobility, how to build new applications and also looked at new ways of using the mobile.

Mobile developers, entrepreneurs and designers…

are you working on mobile applications, devices, or mobile user experience?

did you get together with like-minded peers and looked at FlashLite and mobile processing, openMoko, Green Phone, the iPhone, Windows Mobile and Symbian in more detail?

MobileCamp was organised and run by volunteers - nobody was charged for attending although everyone was expected to give a presentation or lead a discussion session.

the weekend was spent exploring the following areas:

mobile platforms and how they can be used for art, design, commerce and communication
how to create simple, engaging, and beautiful experiences with the complex soup of technologies at our disposal.

the design/hack challenge

To make things a little more interesting, there were prizes for the best hack of the weekend. The winners were decided by the attendees.

the challenge

The challenge was to create a mash-up that re-purposes Smartphone features in a novel way. Qualifying entries should have demonstrated how an application can use one or more sources of content/APIs in an inventive way to benefit users: this could've been entertaining, improving their efficiency, helping them learn new things, or just be thought provoking...

This could mean creating an experience mashing up web services for a mobile environment, GPS and dialing, a new way of visualizing text messages, or even looking at new interface metaphors better suited for devices in our pocket.

the rules

projects were presented at 3:30 on Sunday the 30th of September
winners were decided by a simple majority vote by attendees at the end of the presentation session
participants had the option to develop their concepts on any platform.
