hello
Welcome to the latest edition of what’s on, our newsletter for Orange Partner members. It’s been a very busy time since our last newsletter - as you’ll see from the stories in this issue - but I wanted to start with a big ‘thank you’ to our friends in France, UK, Romania and US who came along to our recent events – it was great to see you.
You may be interested to know that the Orange customer base has grown to 221 million people, with more than 162 million of them using mobile services, according to the figures in the Q3 financial update. Major growth took place in Africa and the Middle East, where new operations are making significant inroads in these rapidly developing markets. For us that’s a key factor in measuring our success: playing a key role in these markets gives us the local knowledge that makes a real difference for our customers. And it’s this local knowledge that can make a real difference for the partners we work with, helping you find customers who want to do business with someone who understands what they want.
In this issue you’ll discover how Orange is expanding its range of distribution channels to help get apps to even more customers around the world, how smartphones are opening up new horizons for customers who are elderly or disabled and find out what apps Orange customers are looking for the coming festive season.
Happy reading and we look forward to sharing exciting opportunities over the coming months.

Dailymotion launches Graph API for free access to video content
Dailymotion, one of the industry’s leading video-sharing services, is to offer free access to its library of tens of millions videos through a new application programming interface (API). Called Graph API, the new interface enables developers to easily access, publish and modify content from the Dailymotion site and embed it in websites and apps. A feature of the new API is its ability to give a consistent view of the related Dailymotion objects and the connections between them (including friend relationship, users’ posted videos, videos in groups/playlists). Graph API is the latest in Dailymotion’s API family. Read more… |

Bigger isn’t always better in the world of apps
All the app talk today centres on the number of apps available and the number of downloads. But it seems the huge numbers actually have an adverse effect for developers, according to figures from research firm research2guidance. Their figures show the average application in the Nokia Store generated 160% more daily downloads than the average in Apple’s App Store. And 80% more in Windows Marketplace. The difference is attributed to visibility: While these stores have a sufficiently large user base that desire apps, there are significantly fewer apps and therefore less competition. The findings underline the pet hate of many developers – the lack of visibility for all their hard work. Bigger, it seems, isn’t always better. |

Developers believe iOS and Android will rule the enterprise
According to the IDC Mobile Developer Report, developers expect Android and iOS to extend their dominance from the consumer segment into the enterprise space, a market previously dominated by RIM’s BlackBerry devices. According to the report, developers believe the race for the top prize is a dead heat with 44 percent banking on Android and another 44 percent going for iOS. Just 4 percent believe RIM will maintain its dominant position. |
