Symbian is a key platform to Orange, forming 80% of our Open OS phones in the market in 2008, with models available from Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson. As a leader in innovation, we’ve built-up a huge expertise on the S60 Platform over the past 3 years, with dedicated R&D and business teams established in the process.
Specifically, for the Symbian Foundation, Orange will contribute marketing and technical requirements in several key areas where we have expertise and industry leadership, taking advantage of our customer insight from operations in 30 countries and over 3500 employees working in R&D worldwide. |

As the industry works together to reduce fragmentation and support innovation on these platforms delivering a better customer experience, we’ll all see a rise in sales of phones with open operating systems. Good news.
It’s the aim of Orange to continue to deliver the best customer experience on the best devices whatever the platform. So we want to be involved.
We have a team dedicated to Device Platforms here at Orange, and we want to be able to share it with the Symbian Foundation through Orange Partner. It’s a community.
We’ll contribute to the Foundation in a number of ways, but overall, our contribution will look something like this:
We’ll share our vision so that the platform is aligned with our customers needs.
We’ll ensure our partners’ needs are communicated to the Symbian Foundation community.
We’ll contribute to enhancing the Symbian Foundation portability which is key to its success.
More information will be available soon, but please join us in wishing the Symbian Foundation a great future.
