The Wholesale Applications Community has been established to increase the overall market for mobile applications.
WAC will achieve its goal of increasing the overall market for mobile applications by encouraging open standardized technologies, driving scaled deployment of those technologies and providing complimentary commercial models.
This will allow developers to deploy an application across multiple devices (through the use of standard technologies) and across multiple operators (without the need to negotiate with each of them). WAC will provide the commercial enablers which will allow the developer to be paid for the applications which are then sold through any associated application store.
WAC and Orange Orange is a founding member of the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC), the global open applications initiative, and Jean-Philippe Vanot, Orange Deputy Chief Executive Officer Quality, Corporate Social Responsibility, is co-chairman of the WAC Board. Orange will enable the distribution of WAC widgets later in 2011 alongside other applications currently on sale in the Orange App Shop. This move will greatly extend the distribution reach for developers as well as enhance the global catalogue of content that local Orange App Shop managers will be able to offer customers in each country.
