Get everything you need to know on the Orange Application Shop. Read through our FAQs... the types of applications that Orange is looking for
Q: What are the different platforms that you are looking for? A: Symbian, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, Palm and Java.
A: We will release certain info to Premium Members to help you develop appropriately.
A: As 'games' is such a large area of interest, some countries already feature them separately within their Orange World portal. However, they may also decide to list complimentary games with the Applications section of the Orange World portal (i.e. in the 'Application Shop.) How each country handles games will be decided on a country by country basis.
A: We will not allow free ad-enabled software. The current business model is one off charge for download. If you have an alternative business model to propose to us we will be pleased to speak to you.
A: If you have Flash Lite products ready, we would be happy to include them in our catalogue, subject to them meeting the usual requirements on testing etc. When we have sufficient numbers of such applications we will introduce support for them in the shop.
A: The platform used is no barrier to inclusion in the Shop. Currently, based on applications featured in the shop , Java is the predominant platform, so we encourage you to submit your applications for Symbian, Blackberry and Windows Mobile O/Ss. Our aim is to offer a compelling range of applications, across all categories for all Orange handsets. If we see particular gaps in this range, we will actively seek relevant solutions from our developer base.
A: Premium Members have the option to submit an idea to us first, as opposed to a finished product. We will then give you feedback on whether or not we're interested, before you need to carry out Orange Compatibility testing or Industry Testing. We won't guarantee we'll take it, but we'll give you informed guidance. testing and Signing
Q: Does Orange require developers to submit signed files? A: Orange requires signed files where possible. If a phone can accept signed files (by virtue of having an appropriate root certificate), then signed files should be submitted. Some phones do not have the appropriate roots and in this case, signed files should not be mapped to these phones since they will not work – submit unsigned files in this case.
Q: What kind of signed files does Orange require?
Q: Will Orange or Cellmania sign my applications for me?
Q: Regarding standard testing do you recommend some partners?
Q: If we have our own provisioning system for multiple apps, what are our options for being in the Orange catalogue but using our own provisioning system?
Q: What is the discount offered to Premium Members to sign apps? pricing, revenue share and payment
Q: How is the price of an application determined? A: When you have signed the 'Application Submission Agreement' between you and Cellmania you will be given access to an extranet which you will use to upload your application. When completing this form you will be asked to fill in your 'Suggested Download Price' which is the price that you wish your application to be sold at. The 'Final Download Price' is the price at which Orange determines the application will be sold at and may vary from your 'Suggested Download Price'. The price will automatically default to '0' until a price has been decided. (If the price variance between the 'Suggested Download Price' and the 'Final Download Price' is substantial, this will be discussed with you individually).
A:The revenue share is split between Orange, Cellmania and you. The exact amount is provided within an 'Application Submission Agreement' between you and Cellmania. The Revenue share will be dependant on the application category selected. Should your application be listed in more than one category, your share will be at the lowest rate that applies.
A: When you have singed the 'Application Submission Agreement' between you and Cellmania you will be given access to a developer portal which you will use to upload your application. Once the application has been launched you will be able to track downloads from here in real-time.
