What is Orange Partner?

bullet Orange Partner is Orange's developer program. It interacts with third parties, from technology and service partners, through developers and content providers, to industry, academia and individuals.

bullet Orange Partner provides commercial and technical support as well as devices, customer and local country insights online, through its Developer Centres network and events presence, which gives developers the information they need to help them succeed.

Why is Orange engaging with developers when there are already a number of programs in existence?

bullet It’s not new for Orange, since in 2004 we were one of the first operators to launch such a partner program.

bullet We are committed to a more open world and a diverse eco-system: supporting and working with developers is an integral part of our strategy.

How does Orange assist its developers in creating and marketing applications with Orange?

bullet Through the Orange Partner programme, developers are provided with information to help them understand each market’s specificities, customer insights and app requirements.

bullet They are also lead through the development and submission process and are given as much one-to-one help and support as they need.

bullet Orange Partner also provides tools for development testing support to ensure every app works fine on the Orange devices.

bullet To help development, we hold regular webinars and events, plus the provision of extensive information leveraging all our eco-system alliances and partners such as device manufacturers, software vendors and other operators.

bullet There are also Orange Developer Centre in New York, San Francisco, Scotland, London (Chiswick), Beijing, Israel and Vancouver, offering local access to Orange teams (except Glasgow & Vancouver) and allowing developers to test their apps on the live UK 2G and 3G network using a wide range of Orange devices.

What evidence can Orange offer that it understands the needs of the developer community?

bullet Orange is also a developer and experienced its own Orange branded applications publishing on the major app stores so shares the same concerns as any other developer.

bullet Our Orange-branded applications are designed to support core services and premium offers which Orange can propose exclusively to its customers. For example, Orange Maps and TV d’Orange are available on iPhone , Android, Ovi, Windows Phone 7 platforms. In the UK, we have developed specific applications such as Orange Wednesdays, to complement the UK’s existing two-for-one cinema offer every Wednesday.

bullet We have also developed apps for a number of other platforms and languages such as Qt, which brings the hugely popular Orange Wednesdays app to Symbian smartphones. Developed by Orange Labs UK, the app was the first Qt app developed for Symbian phones and demonstrates the possibilities of Qt and how it is possible to provide an excellent user experience on existing Symbian touch devices.

How do I find out what the Orange countries want?

bullet Information is published regularly on www.orangepartner.com and also provided via webinars and physical events.  It’s in our interest to make sure our developer community can access all the information to help them develop relevant and appropriate apps for Orange customers.

bullet In France developers could also benefit from insights coming from our panel of 30 000 Orange customers,  (the LabExplorers from Lab’Orange) whoi can be surveyed to give their opinions and comments on applications.

How is the Orange App Shop being promoted to consumers?

bullet Consumer promotion is undertaken on a country-by-country basis. All promotion and animation of the shop is done by local teams, who have local knowledge and know what interests customers in those countries

bullet We'll continue to promote the Orange App Shop and apps, using both traditional and also more unusual advertising methods.

bullet Promotions have included: SMS campaigns direct to customers, Orange consumer magazine adverts, adverts on the Orange country website, banner adverts across the Orange country WAP site, dedicated icon on the mobile portal homescreen, and posts and promotion in blogs and on social networking sites.

bullet We are working to define the new retail marketing service we will be proposing to developers to be available in the coming months.

bullet In addition, we'll be actively promoting the new Orange App Shop client to new customers, so all apps in the Shop will benefit from this exposure (multimedia corners in the shops project).

What successes has Orange Partner had so far? What indicators are there Orange has been successful in its partner program?

bullet Orange Partner has carried a lot of attended events and built a community of 45000 partners since its creation.

How many developers are employed at Orange Partner? How many developers or former developers are part of the management team?

bullet Orange Partner can get insights from the 4000 developers across Orange to share their knowledge and best practice on the different operating systems.

What trends do you see in the application space you’d like to capitalize on?

bullet Definitely opportunities on the android platform to bring quality and locally relevant apps to Orange customers.

bullet We just want to ensure applications bring value to their user.
